i had a teacher at the very beginning and i was only in 5th grade but idk i guess it was good to get me started but after id been playing for a while it just seemed like a waste
pick a song and try youtube, its gonna be very long and hard starting by yourself but it will get better; 2 years
I found a keyboard in my room a week ago so ive been teaching myself too. However I already play the trumpet. The 1st step is to learn to read music. Next find some free songs online
Well I hope you started with an Electric not an acoustic. The electric guitar is easier for your fingers with chords, tabs, solos, and whatever else you want to do. With distortion petals you can make so many sounds. The Wa pedal, or heavy distortions, echoes. The best way to start is by learning yourself. Go to a guitar shop and ask if they have any chord books, your favorite musicians song books, or you could go to 911Tabs.com They have tons of easy tabs you can learn. Almost every song is on there. They are not ALL right, but they do help you learn. Some of the best musicians taught themselves.
I like youtube and even though im 15 and my friend is 12 he is really good and gives me tips like right now i don’t have a teacher so he is going to give me tips on pinch harmonics. I would say learn scales and chords first but before that learn the names of the strings
I was in the same situation as you. I had an old guitar and nobody to teach me. I bought the book Guitar for Dummies and learned on my own. It is very helpful and starts out with the very basics, so even if you know nothing about guitar, you can easily learn everything you need to get started. It takes lots of practice to get better, but this book will help you if you are willing to put in the time. I would recommend it for anybody just learning to play.
well if you learn how to read tabs i would go on youtube and look up how to play a certain song that you want to play or go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com and look up the song tabs i would suggest a beginner song like Iron man- Black sabbath, rock you like a hurricane- scorpions, or dance of death- iron maiden message me if you have any questions
Hmmm… I know you said you don’t have any money but honestly the best way to learn yourself is to buy a great guitar learning dvd or book and then following it. You could use Youtube although I think its a really poor substitute. If you are 100% serious about learning, save up some money.. it doesn’t take much… and get yourself a good instruction program. Way cheaper than a teacher too!
Guitar is very technical. If you start with wrong techniques you will destroy yourself forever. John McLaughlin (google him) is like the best electric guitarist ever. When he started licking classical music and playing classical guitars 20 years later he said I regret starting with electric guitar because now I can’t change my techniques.
